I spent 15 years as a Mathematics teacher, with almost all of this time at St Edwards school in Oxford. Before this I was a Civil Engineer and worked as a design consultant for 20 years. During my time teaching I have met students from all walks of life and abilities. I believe I have developed an excellent understanding of the needs of the student and linked this with what is necessary to advance in relevant maths course.
“I just wanted to say thank you so much for helping me this year to get me prepared for A levels. Thanks you so much. I hope you have a great summer as well.” Recent A Level Student, retaking

“I have known John for around 11 years and was his line manager in the Mathematics department at St Edward’s, Oxford for the past 3 years. During his time at the school, John has taught Mathematics across the age and ability range. As you can imagine, John is a highly experienced teacher who has taught all manner of courses in his time here – from GCSE, IGCSE, A Level, A Level Further & IB (both Standard & Higher Levels). He has seen literally every area of syllabus, both new and old. His favourite areas to teach were undoubtedly on the Mechanics side of the A Level & Further Mathematics courses, where he could often be seen bringing the subject to life with his many links to the real world. John spent his younger years working in the engineering sector and this knowledge definitely added to the experience in the classroom.” Head of Maths, St Edwards to 2022
